WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, today applauds the announcement by Acting U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert Wilkie that the VA has signed a contract to adopt Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for veterans’ medical records.

Cerner Electronic Health Record’s will improve VA services and significantly enhance the safety and coordination of care for veterans who receive medical care, not only from VA, but the Department of Defense and community partners.

“I am pleased to hear the VA is moving forward with the modernization of their medical records system,” said Isakson. “This new electronic records system will create a seamless transition for those transferring from active duty to veteran status, and I believe this move will improve the continuity of information and timeliness of care for our nation’s veterans.”

The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., in the 115th Congress. Isakson is a veteran himself – having served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 – and has been a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since he joined the Senate in 2005.
