Sen. Moran Applauds National Archives & Records Administration for Clearing Backlog of Military Service Requests
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) – ranking member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee – today applauded the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC), housed within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), for clearing a backlog of more than 600,000 requests for military service records.
“Pandemic-era restrictions created lingering effects that made it challenging for veterans in Kansas and across the country to receive their records, delaying access to the health care and benefits they deserve,” said Sen. Moran. “I applaud the dedicated workforce of the NRPC, many of whom are veterans themselves, for their hard work to eliminate the records backlog through expanded shifts, overtime and holiday work, and innovative solutions, so that veterans could have timely access to their records.”
Sen. Moran led bipartisan efforts, starting in 2020, to increase NPRC operating capacity, expand collaborative records digitization efforts between NARA and VA and boost resources to alleviate challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
