Sen. Moran Statement on VA’s Decision to Halt Rollout of all EHRM Systems
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Kan.) – the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs – today released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced its plan to halt the continued implementation of the Oracle Cerner electronic health record (EHR) system at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities until significant improvements are made to the system in accordance with Sen. Moran’s recent legislation:
“Pausing the rollout of the EHR system until it can be overhauled is the right decision for our veterans. The parameters outlined in my legislation – and set by the VA – must be met before the rollout of the system continues. Without these changes, it would be irresponsible to continue implementing the system at additional VA medical centers.”
Sen. Moran introduced the Department of Veterans Affairs EHRM Standardization and Accountability Act last month that would stop further rollout of the EHR system until the improvements outlined in the legislation were met.
