Tester-Backed Bill Honoring Late Senator Johnny Isakson Heads to President’s Desk
Bipartisan bill to name VA Atlanta Regional Office after former Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman
(U.S. Senate) – The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Senator Johnny Isakson VA Regional Office Act of 2022—bipartisan legislation backed by Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Jon Tester to name the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Atlanta Regional Office in memory of the late Senator Johnny Isakson.
“Johnny Isakson was a true statesman, and a fierce advocate for veterans and their families in Georgia and all across the country,” said Chairman Tester. “It was an honor of a lifetime to serve with Johnny on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, where we secured big bipartisan wins that expanded veterans’ access to care, education, and earned support. Our bill will ensure his legacy fighting on behalf of our nation’s veterans will live on for years to come, and I urge the President to sign it into law without delay.”
Tester served as the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee alongside Isakson as the Chairman from 2017 to 2019. Together, the Senators worked in a bipartisan manner to pass meaningful legislation and tackle challenges facing veterans nationwide. They worked hand-in-hand to champion the VA MISSION Act and other reforms that increased accountability, expanded educational benefits, and modernized the process for veterans’ appeals of benefits.
