Ranking Member Moran Shares Message To Veterans During Mental Health Awareness Month

WASHINGTON – To recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee (SVAC) Ranking Member Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) addressed veteran mental health challenges from military service and shared available mental health resources in a video message to veterans.

“Military service doesn’t end when you take off the uniform,” said Sen. Moran. “It is both an honor and burden that you will carry with you throughout your life. I am working to ensure you have the resources through the Department of Veterans Affairs that you need to achieve success in your life after service.”

Last October, former President Trump signed the landmark Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act into law, extending the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) reach into communities to identify and provide suicide prevention services to vulnerable veterans, reforming mental health care at the VA, bolstering the VA’s research capabilities and mental health workforce and expanding access to alternative and local treatment options. As the lead Republican on SVAC, one of Sen. Moran’s priorities is continued oversight of its implementation to make certain veterans have access to life-saving mental health resources.
