WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, today applauded the nomination of longtime committee staffer Amanda Meredith to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. The Senate VA committee will hold a hearing to consider Meredith’s nomination followed by a full Senate confirmation vote.

After starting her career as a staff member at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, Meredith has spent the past 12 years in the U.S. Senate working on the Senate VA Committee. Meredith has served as deputy staff director and general counsel for the Republican staff of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since 2015, when Isakson took over as chairman. In this capacity, she has worked extensively on legislative and oversight activities related to veterans’ benefits in addition to serving as general counsel for the committee.

“Amanda has been a tremendous asset to our committee during her time on the staff of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Since 2005, she has provided invaluable insight and counsel on the VA and its claims and appeals systems,” said Isakson. “Her experience at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and on Capitol Hill will serve her well in this new position. I thank Amanda for her service as my deputy staff director and general counsel, and I look forward to chairing her confirmation hearing in the coming weeks. I hope the Senate will quickly confirm Amanda to this important post where I know she will continue to do good work for our nation’s veterans.”

Meredith has worked for the Republican staff of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since 2005. Meredith served as benefits counsel from 2005 to 2008 and as general counsel from 2008 to 2015. She has been responsible for legislative and oversight activities regarding a wide range of veterans’ issues, including the Department of Veterans Affairs disability claims processing and appeal system, veterans’ education benefits, and service members’ civil relief.

Prior to joining the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs staff, Meredith worked at the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims for nearly eight years. While at the court, she served as a judicial law clerk from 1997 to 2000, as the executive attorney to the Chief Judge from 2000 to 2004, and as the director of the Court’s Task Force for Backlog Reduction from 2004 to 2005.

Meredith graduated summa cum laude from the University at Buffalo with a degree in accounting and graduated magna cum laude from the University at Buffalo Law School. She is admitted to the bar in New York State and admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Meredith was raised in upstate New York and currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
