Blumenthal Statement on Justice Department Indictment Against Former VA Employee

(Hartford, CT) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Justice’s filing of charges against a former Department of Veterans Affairs employee in Augusta, Ga., for alleged falsification of the medical records of numerous VA patients:

Falsifying records is an egregious crime – most especially when it undermines veterans’ health care – and should be prosecuted vigorously in this case and others. This action is overdue, but welcome. I'll continue to monitor the investigation of officials who cooked books at VA. Thorough investigations and prosecutions are the only way to ensure that responsible individuals are held criminally accountable.”
