INCYMI: Sen. Burr Joins Resolution to Recognize Last American WWI Vet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) today co-sponsored a resolution recognizing Frank Buckles, the last living American veteran of World War I.  The measure authorizes Mr. Buckles to lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda.

Mr. Buckles celebrates his 110th birthday today.

"Mr. Buckles has continued to serve his country well beyond his time in active duty," Senator Burr said today. "His patriotism and love for his country stands as an example for us all. Best wishes to him and his family on this special day."

After enlisting in the Army at the age of 16, Mr. Buckles served on the RMS Carpathia, drove ambulances and motorcycles in France and England, and escorted prisoners of war back to Germany.

Sen. Burr was the original co-sponsor of a similar resolution introduced in the 110th Congress.
